Personal Shopper: Elle Woods in Legally Blonde the Musical!

I had a very different college experience. While some people were living the sorority life, and becoming volleyball or track stars, I was performing in musicals and dancing with our modern dance team. And I loved every minute of it! Through that time in musicals, I met my sweet friend Kathryn who now is combining both her musical theater degree and law degree to get the chance to play everyone’s favorite lawyer, Elle Woods in a production of Legally Blonde the Musical. I could not be more excited for Kathryn!

She is responsible for finding most of her wardrobe, and I am so honored that she asked me for advice on some of the pieces! The first outfit she needs to find is for the night that Elle thinks Warner is going to propose. Where did I first look to for inspiration? Well Elle herself! “I want to look bridal…but not like I’m expecting it!”. And of course an overload of pink…her signature color! Here is what I found for my own friend, Elle Woods!

Fancy Pants

I’m pretty sure everyone I know is extremely excited that spring is almost here. With the major flip-flopping the weather has done lately (30 degrees one day, 70 the next), the not so rewarding winter (what is winter without a little snow?!), I feel like spring is being welcomed world-wide with open arms! You can exercise outside, the flowers are blooming, sandals are being dusted off, and bright colors are everywhere. It truly is magical! So it comes as no surprise that I am very excited about a spring trend that I feel encompasses everything fabulous about spring. The floral pant! Yes this style also comes in denim form, and shorts form, but there is something so ethereal about a floral patterned trouser or capri. Balance these styles with a flouncey white top, bow flats or fabulous espadrilles, and you are ready to conquer the season!

Peppy for Peplum: Skirts

Peplum is everywhere right now. I’ve had a few key pieces from this trend in my closet for a while, so I was super giddy when I started seeing it on the runways. What is peplum? Well I thought you’d never ask! It derives from the Greek word “tunic” and is, by definition, “A short overskirt or ruffle attached at the waistline of a jacket, blouse, or dress”. The little flounce of ruffle is just so whimsical! The look can also be incredibly versatile. It can be super over the top girlie, but some other designs can perfectly fit into a work ensemble. Save the over the top ruffles and large bows for playtime, and for work stick to more subtle hints of peplum. Skirts, jackets, tops…there’s so much fun fashion to share, I had to break it down a bit. So today I want to share some of my favorite peplum skirts. Check back soon for more “Peppy for Peplum”!

A Sharp Bracelet

Gold Spiked bracelets are popping up on trendy wrists all over the place. From celebs to everyday gals alike, this is quite the fun trend. I am embracing it in full force!

{my spiked bracelet is from Forever21}

The more bangle jangle on my wrist, the happier I am. Why have to make decisions in the morning about which bracelet to wear when you can just wear them all?! The more the merrier! I love how it is the perfect juxtaposition of feminine and masculine. Gold and shiny, with just a little bit of that perfect edge. Here are some suggestions to help you add a little spiked pizzaz to your stack of arm candy.

A Different January

We are having a very strange January. Just this weekend I sported shorts while running errands with my love, and I even contemplated getting some frozen yogurt. {but alas, I opted for Starbucks…clearly} Normally this time of year I am trying to figure out the best way to cutely wear as many items of clothing as possible without looking like the Michelin man. I know the frozen temps have to be coming soon…but until then I resolve to plan cute outfits that celebrate the breezy weather we are having! Which includes today’s topic. I am on the hunt for a pair of harem pants. Now, this is another one of those “fine line” items where you have to be super careful to make sure you do not look like A.) M.C. Hammer, B.) Aladdin, or C.) All of the Above. For example, under no circumstances do I ever want to see you out and about in something like this and tell people I told you to do so:

Make sure your harem style fits you nicely and is only baggy around the leg area leading down to the fitted calf. No “sagging in all the wrong places”. That’s happy for no one involved. I want to style them slightly dressy… Like a fun blouse with a great blazer, and some stellar ankle boots. Here are some pants that I feel will fit the bill perfectly.

Second Dress from the Right

I tend to get slightly obsessed with fashion ideas. Good or bad, they stick and will not go away until tended to. What better way to work on getting it out of my system than to blog about it? The fashion item I currently have tunnel vision for are the Peter Pan collar style. You know I love some good whimsy and boy does this style have a ton of that! Now the shape is key…keep it tailored, not frumpy. It is just so chic! Just remember…chic, not 2nd grader. And I don’t mean to focus in too closely on one retailer…it’s just that Asos really does have an enormous selection in this style, so go check out their site for more options!

Christmas Slumber

Along with parties, gifts, and decorations in general, the Christmas season, at least for me, brings about the search for some super cute jammies. Nothing beats a cold winter night, bundled up in your festive p.j.’s, the tree lit, a cup of hot cocoa, and a Christmas movie. And you also need to look your best on Christmas morning…sure you just woke up but there will undoubtedly be pictures! Comfy doesn’t have to mean ugly! And you can keep in line with the Christmas spirit without having to wear reindeer slippers. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite sleepy time ensembles…

One thing on my Christmas list is a cute robe… I love the bow detailing on these from Victoria’s Secret:

I love the button up men’s wear jammies. I especially when they come in shorts and a girlie satin. This style from Asos also comes in some other colors, as well as a long sleeve option with the shorts.

Your winter sleepwear is not complete without a sassy pair of slippers! How amazing are these from Kate Spade?! They also come in red, and a fabulous royal blue.

Happy Slumber!

What to Wear… For Him!: Thanksgiving

I’m so excited to do my first “what to wear” post for guys! Thanks to my friend Hayden for pointing out the need for such a post! He was also nice enough to supply a few tips for this post! I’m so excited to share my findings with you….to share with the men in your life.

For guys during the fall, a great outfit starts with a stunner of a sweater. It can make the simplest of shirts stand out. There are a slew of color varieties in this one but I love this color…perfect for fall!

Speaking of sweaters…I adore the neckline of this style. It’s not too over the top cowl neck, but just enough added “oomph” and the front pocket keeps it from crossing over into Mr. Rogers land.

Sometimes I find it hard to find interesting styles of pants for guys. Outside of jeans khakis, and dress pants, there doesn’t always seem to be a huge variety. That is until I stumbled across this pair. I love the plaid lining and how you can sport them rolled ever so slightly to reveal that pattern! I would just NOT recommend sporting them with the same clown shoes as the model in this pic. Think some sleek loafers instead.

I, along with many others, are all about the plaid this season. I love a good plaid shirt, but don’t love a guy looking like the Brawny paper towel guy. So how do you avoid such a travesty? You sport this sleek button up. The colors are perfect for this fall flavored holiday. {just don’t wear it with this hat…I mean, what is with these dude models?!}

And lets not forget a toasty jacket… Nothing is better than an awesome black number to finish off your outfit. This one is a major stunner…the look of a leather jacket without the “Fonz” feel.

Happy shopping boys! {and girls shopping for those boys!}

What to Wear: Thanksgiving

I can’t believe it’s here… Thanksgiving week! November has blown by in an instant. I love Thanksgiving… I don’t like to pick favorites when it comes to holidays, I generally love them all, but I do particularly enjoy this one. The fall colors, the smell of pumpkin, {the MASSIVE shopping day after}, and let’s not forget how much we all have to be thankful for.

All that aside, it’s a tricky holiday to dress for. You want to be cute, because there will certainly be pictures, but then you will also be in the same outfit all day. You need something to take you from cooking and prepping for the meal, to eating, to kicking back with family and friends. A tricky combo no doubt. I’ve compiled some ideas for you… And be on the lookout tomorrow for the same post, but in a much requested guys’ edition!

The simplest of pairings would be a cute sweater and jeans. {comfy jeans of course} However I’m not a fan of the über prepster sweater look. That’s where this option comes in as the perfect alternative. A little swingy in style, giving it that added trendy flair, but still being loose and cozy enough to carry you through the day.

One thing I love about fall are the colors. Nothing says Thanksgiving like pairing those colors into your ensemble for the day. I’ve featured this cape before, but it bears repeating. This would be amazing paired with some skinny jeans, boots, and the top of your choice. The perfect addition to jazz up a simple outfit, while at the same time keeping you warm and chic!

Now you might be wondering what to pick out should you need to wear a dress. Never fear! Just steer clear of tight silhouettes, and corset tops that will undoubtedly begin to poke you after the first few hours. And if you live in a cooler climate, opt for a shorter dress so you can pair it with leggings. They will keep you warmer than tights, be more comfortable, and you will be thankful for them if you end up playing outside! Right now I am obsessed with the Peter Pan colors of these two dresses.

Are you in the market for more of a dressy pant? My favorite place to shop for these is JCrew. They have the perfect and endless collection of bottoms in every color, print and texture under the sun. Look towards bold colors and interesting patterns. {Shop the whole JCrew collection here}

Here’s to a fashionable Thanksgiving! Don’t forget to check back tomorrow for the guys’ edition!

Slip into Style

There are many things for fall that I’m ever so slightly obsessed with. {in a totally healthy way of course} One in particular are slippers. Not ballet flats, and not bunny slippers, but those patterned, embroidered, or yes, even monogrammed flat “house shoes”. They are popping up everywhere and I am in love! There’s something so whimsically regal about this style. Like you are in a fairy tale palace waiting in your robe for someone to bring you your crown. Only, you put these on with jeans, cropped pants, or even shorts…and wear them to work or school. Maybe not as glamorous as the palace scenario, but hey… a girl’s gotta work with what she’s got!

{Velvet is so holiday ready!}

{Gigantic pom poms OWN me!}

{Love the dalmatian pattern!}

{Love the star embroidery}

{Glitter! Need I say more?}
