What to Wear: Thanksgiving

I can’t believe it’s here… Thanksgiving week! November has blown by in an instant. I love Thanksgiving… I don’t like to pick favorites when it comes to holidays, I generally love them all, but I do particularly enjoy this one. The fall colors, the smell of pumpkin, {the MASSIVE shopping day after}, and let’s not forget how much we all have to be thankful for.

All that aside, it’s a tricky holiday to dress for. You want to be cute, because there will certainly be pictures, but then you will also be in the same outfit all day. You need something to take you from cooking and prepping for the meal, to eating, to kicking back with family and friends. A tricky combo no doubt. I’ve compiled some ideas for you… And be on the lookout tomorrow for the same post, but in a much requested guys’ edition!

The simplest of pairings would be a cute sweater and jeans. {comfy jeans of course} However I’m not a fan of the über prepster sweater look. That’s where this option comes in as the perfect alternative. A little swingy in style, giving it that added trendy flair, but still being loose and cozy enough to carry you through the day.

One thing I love about fall are the colors. Nothing says Thanksgiving like pairing those colors into your ensemble for the day. I’ve featured this cape before, but it bears repeating. This would be amazing paired with some skinny jeans, boots, and the top of your choice. The perfect addition to jazz up a simple outfit, while at the same time keeping you warm and chic!

Now you might be wondering what to pick out should you need to wear a dress. Never fear! Just steer clear of tight silhouettes, and corset tops that will undoubtedly begin to poke you after the first few hours. And if you live in a cooler climate, opt for a shorter dress so you can pair it with leggings. They will keep you warmer than tights, be more comfortable, and you will be thankful for them if you end up playing outside! Right now I am obsessed with the Peter Pan colors of these two dresses.

Are you in the market for more of a dressy pant? My favorite place to shop for these is JCrew. They have the perfect and endless collection of bottoms in every color, print and texture under the sun. Look towards bold colors and interesting patterns. {Shop the whole JCrew collection here}

Here’s to a fashionable Thanksgiving! Don’t forget to check back tomorrow for the guys’ edition!

Find that Look: Emma Watson

First off, let me welcome you to the new and improved SprinklesonMyStilettos.com! That’s right friends, you can now reach this site via .com! Also, you’ll notice there are now tabs of categories at the top to help you get right to what you are looking for. Lot’s of exciting things are on the horizon so make sure you check back often! Now on with today’s topic…

It’s not breaking news that Miss Emma Watson has been seen in every magazine from here to Tim Buck Two due to the release of the newest Harry Potter installment. {seen here} And maybe it’s that very fact that she is seen so often that has led me to become utterly obsessed with her smart style. The girl can rock a red carpet, and as we will see with today’s outfit, has mastered chic and comfy. Outside of my desire to always live in something sparkly, my other desire would be to live and breathe comfy chic, so I am an avid student of this art.

First let’s start with the t-shirt. Every girl needs an army of classic and comfy white t-shirts in her closet. My trick? Whenever I see a good one on sale, I snatch it up, whether I need it or not. Cause let’s be honest, I’m slightly clumsy and will inevitably mess it up one day and will want plenty of back up. Also, white shirts are known to get dingy beyond the help of bleach, so stock up when you can and you can thank me later. My favorite brands include Victoria’s Secret, Gap, and Splendid. Steer clear of anything too tight, and too thick. The key is easy breezy.

{Victoria’s Secret. Outside of white, I also own many of these other colors. Quite literally the perfect T.}

Next up is that adorable sweater. Maybe I’m just super cold natured, but every girl also needs a comfy sweater that isn’t an old nasty hoodie. {nothing wrong with those and heaven knows I own them, they just don’t scream chic!} I found a similar cardigan to Emma’s here but I also own and love ones from Anthropologie {great ones always end up on their sale rack, just dig dig dig!} and La Rok has super cozy ones as well.

Nothing is more versatile to girl’s wardrobe than a well fitting pair of black yoga pants. If you get the right style, possibly with some back pockets, or other stylistic flair to them, it will help it look more like an outfit and less like a trip to the gym. In order to not cross into that territory, your best bet is to go with a higher priced line, like Anthropologie. {remember, wait for the great sales!} If you don’t have any luck there, Victoria’s Secret ones always fit great, as do Old Navy, just remember, the Navy tends to favor our more petite friends so if you are on the tall side, steer clear unless you want some serious high waters.

And last but certainly not least, is that adorable cross body bag. It’s so old school classic leather and I love it. The style of Emma’s reminds me of the Coach Classics Collection from Net-A-Porter. Looking for a more affordable option? Check this one out from Khols. The long strap is perfect for an on the go day, and the color goes with everything.

So there you have it, options for the perfect chic and comfy outfit. Happy shopping!

Find that Look: Jillian Harris

Now that I’ve recently divulged my secret for loving all things reality tv, I feel like this is a safe place to talk about how much I am a fan of Jillian Harris, of the Bachelorette fame. The perky Canadian interior designer is also a fabulous fashionista and I love to follow her fashion sense. Case in point today. The perfect “work-y” type outfit that is still bright and perfect for summer.

First let’s talk about that adorable blazer. The key to a good one is fit, fit, fit. You don’t want to look like you borrow your man’s. Blazers are not meant to be frumpy, but sleek and sassy. The white color is perfect for summer.

Since it is summer, you want to make sure you love the look of your top sans the blazer. A top in a lightweight material like this one is also key.

If you are going to tuck in your shirt, you have to have a very specific type of jean. Not too high wasted, and not too low-rise. For that style I love Citizen.

Skinny belts are perfect for tucking a cute top in. It doesn’t take too much away from the outfit and no girl wants anything too much added to her waistline.

Christmas 2010 Gift Guide for Him: Under $50

Time to shop for those boys!

My husband has been sporting a lot of sweaters lately and I love it. They really add that something extra to an outfit. I especially like this button down one.

These iPad, iPod and laptop wooden cases are so awesome. I love the natural look of the wood. Great mix with the super up to date technology.

If the guy in your life is into photography, this nifty, flexible tripod would come in handy! Especially if he is outdoors-y.

If you have never heard of woot.com, you must keep them in mind for gift giving to the jokester guys in your life. They have hilarious t-shirts, like this one: “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead”.

I saw this sweater right after Thanksgiving and it’s still one of my favorite things in terms of guy’s cold weather clothing. Note the very soft pink ribbing.

Guys don’t have purses to toss their sunglasses in, so how perfect is this super kitschy Fossil sunglass case?

These Skull Candy headphones are just too cool for school.

This plaid shirt is just begging to be worn next to a burning fire.
