Red Carpet Favorites: Billboard Music Awards

With a music awards red carpet, you just never know what you are going to get. However, with this year’s Billboard Music Awards, I was pleasantly surprised. At least for the most part… you know there’s always a couple crazies in every crew! Between gowns that I am severely jealous of {hello Carrie!!}, beautiful makeup {hello Zooey!!}, and super funky fun hair {hello Lacey!!}. I was loving so much… Here are my favorites from the evening…

From the Ballroom to Real Life

Maybe it’s the dancer in me, but I’ve always been a huge advocate of taking the style of a dance outfit and transposing it to everyday wear. Now, I’m not talking leg warmers and unitards….but rather taking inspiration from fabulous costumes, or the sleek simplicity of the dancer ‘look’. Now obviously you can’t just wear a dance costume to work, or an event…I’m saying that you need to use these creative pieces as ‘idea points’.

Take my favorite costume from Lacey Schwimmer, for instance,  on an episode of last season’s Dancing with the Stars.

Absolutely adorable, but seeing as I am neither A.} a ballroom dancer, or B.} a character in a living game of Candy Land {as completely amazing as that would be}, I’d have to look in a different direction if I wished to sport the same look. So when I saw a picture of Reese Witherspoon in this Jason Wu dress at a Water for Elephants premier, it was the perfect example! Love the black and white flower pattern, and the skirt is equally as fun and full of personality, yet totally appropriate to wear anywhere!

It’s no secret that celebrities and people in the lime light are how we discover some of the latest trends. But what happens when you see someone on tv whose outfit you love, but it’s not on the pages of a magazine to tell you exactly where to go shopping? That’s where I come in! I guess it’s the Nancy Drew in me, but I love doing lots of research and either find that exact outfit, or something similar at a more affordable price. So I decided I needed to start sharing when I make these little discoveries.

I am an avid watcher of Dancing with the Stars. Lacey Schwimmer is one of my favorites of the professionals. After the finale a few weeks ago, the final 3 made an appearance on Good Morning America and I could not get over Lacey’s adorable outfit.

The star of this outfit, I think, are the tights. Those could not be copied. I found the exact pair at Urban Outfitters.

It’s true that any black short would work for this outfit but the exact shorts can be found also at Urban Outfitters, and I love the tuxedo waste band detailing.

The blouse is very similar to one from Express that I talked about here.

The sunglasses are of course, classic black Ray Ban Wayfarers. If I were adding my own touch, I’d wear my personal Ray Ban Wayfarers, only in PINK! My favorite Christmas present from my husband last year.

And the leopard coat  just seems to be the cherry on this Sundae of an outfit. I’m getting this one for Christmas but it seems to be almost sold out… A similar one can be found here.
